Fanaka Finance Limited (FFL) is a registered company limited by shares. The company was registered in 2017 to provide a variety of impact-driven financial solutions to cooperative MSMEs and their members.
FFL is currently wholly owned by the Uhuru Institute for Social Development (TUI), a Ugandan-rooted social enterprise that promotes and applies the cooperative business model for inclusive social and economic transformation. TUI started FFL to actualize her goal of increasing access to affordable financial solutions for integrated cooperative businesses.
The actual spark for TUI was a civic responsibility training in which a group of 13 distraught boda-boda riders who had long worked for their masters, earning very meagre incomes with little or no hope of ever owning their own motorcycles, got an awakening that being a part of a cooperative would be a solution to their poor socio-economic situations.
